Set sail for success

Parental Engagement

At Mayflower, we believe in working closely with our parents. We actively encourage parents to get involved in their child’s learning at home, for example, by listening to them read and by talking to them and sharing stories.

We have regular workshops for parents on a broad range of topics which are helpful to families. If you’ve never been before, please come along! If you have any ideas for future workshops please let us know – we’d love to hear your ideas!

Details of these sessions can be found on the school newsletter as well as notifications sent via SchoolPing. Please make sure you regularly access SchoolPing on your phone to receive the latest school updates and information. If you need help with this app, please ask at the office.

Learning Together

These are some of the fun and useful workshops that we have had this year:

  • How to support your child in their learning at home including how we teach Reading and Phonics
  • Women’s Cycling
  • Relaxation and Stress Management workshops
  • Information sharing about different local exercise groups eg parent walking groups
  • Gardening on a balcony workshops
  • Parenting Ideas Discussion groups
  • Seasonal parties for parents
  • Keeping Children Safe Online
  • Workshop on ‘Philosophy for Children’
  • Health workshops – Diabetes awareness, maternity care
  • Healthy Eating ideas for children
  • Getting Children Ready for School

We also work in collaboration with the local Poplar HARCA Welcome Hub, the George Green Welcome Hub which is close by. They currently do a range of activities such as jewellery making, knitting and sewing (subject to change.)

If you cannot come to the Parent Workshops/Coffee Mornings in person then please look for the ‘Support for Families’ Page under the ‘Parents’ Heading on the school website. Information from the workshops will be put there as well as sent out via SchoolPing, so you can explore information at a time that suits you.

Feedback from parents is always very welcome.

We usually hold a Summer Fayre every year, there are lots of ways to get involved at our school. Thank you for being a part of it.
