Design and Technology at Mayflower

At Mayflower we teach design and technology to provide our pupils with opportunities to explore their creativity as well as develop their construction and problem solving skills. DT draws on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering and computing and is taught in rotation with art each half term. Progressing each year, students are introduced to specific design terminology whilst they plan, make and evaluate projects linked to their focus story.

There are three core activities children engage with in design and technology:

  • Activities which involve investigating and evaluating existing products.
  • Focused tasks in which children are introduced to design features and terminology, for example joining, adapting or specifications.
  • Designing and making activities in which children plan and construct a product targeted at a specific audience and/or purpose.

"Thank you for providing the groups for our 'Around the world with Captain Cook' pilots today - and to say how utterly delightful both classes were. Impeccable behaved incredibly sensible, engaged throughout their visit and all in all a real pleasure.
